Olympia waterfalls

A paradise on earth

These waterfalls are located within the gorge of Mount Erymanthos, near a small village. You may never have heard of this place before, but it is a true natural paradise and part of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia.

This village is located on the western side of the Peloponnese. Its waterfalls and forests feel straight out of a fairytale, and the emerald-green landscape will stay in your memory forever.
The distance from ancient Olympia is a 40-minute drive, 24 km, and from Katakolo a 54 km, 1 h drive.

  • Very important:

The route has no signs, so if you go there, you must go with a guide/group.

The whole route takes around 4.5 hours to complete (around 10km walking time). It depends on how long you want to stay under the waterfall, “showers” or just to sit around in the forest and contemplate. If you have limited time, especially if you are coming with a cruise ship and you have a maximum of 6 hours, we suggest that we pick you up from Katakolo port or from ancient Olympia and go directly to this village where our hiking trail starts. Then we will drive in pickup trucks to the riverbed where the hiking trail starts. You can walk around 3 km to the first waterfalls and stay there for a bit to enjoy this paradise on earth.

To make the most of your time, you will enjoy a picnic in nature with fresh fruits. After this unforgettable experience, you will return to Ancient Olympia and visit its world-famous archaeological site.
You will then be transferred back to your cruise ship safely and on time.

History & Glossary

In western Peloponnese, in the so-called “valley of the gods”, Ancient Olympia grew to be the most celebrated sacred site of Ancient Greece, and the birthplace of the Olympic Games, the most important sports events in all antiquity; starting from 776 B.C., all Greeks – across the then known world – would be united every four years and all hostilities would be suspended so that everyone could take part in these games in the true spirit of sportsmanship. Olympia is now, as it used to be in the past, a famed destination, a powerful landmark known the world over.
