History & Glossary

The Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea .
It is the unquestionable sea “umbilical cord” between Western and Eastern Mediterranean.
We are going to stop to see this miracle of modern construction and then you will be driven to see the ancient Diolkos passage. It (Δίολκος, from the Greek dia διά, “across”, and holkos ὁλκός, “portage machine”) was a paved trackway near Corinth, in ancient Greece, which enabled boats to be moved overland across the Isthmus of Corinth. The shortcut allowed ancient vessels to avoid the long and dangerous circumnavigation of the Peloponnesian peninsula.

Nafplio is considered to be one of the most beautiful and romantic towns in Greece. Here, we walk through Greek history from archaic times to the present. Legend says that the town was founded by Nafplios, son of the god Poseidon. Nafplios’ son Palamides fought in the Trojan War and today, his namesake, the huge Palamides castle, still stands atop the hill overlooking the town. We will drive you up to this famous castle to explore and enjoy the panoramic view.

Greek cheeses like Feta or Graviera (hard cheese). You will be surprised by the taste of these aged cheeses with herbs like oregano or thyme and you will also enjoy the pairing with seasonal fruits or honey.

Mycenae. One of the World Heritage Sites of UNESCO, homeland of the king Agamemnon, who returned as a winner from the Trojan War. Your guided archaeological and historical tour will start at the vaulted tomb, known as the “Treasury of Atreus”, one of the most impressive works of Mycenaean burial architecture. Continue to the Lion Gate, visit Grave Circle A, the “Megaron”: the Palace of the Mycenaean kings and the Museum.

Epidaurus, one of the most famous therapeutic centers of the ancient world and a UNESCO World Heritage Theatre. You will have a guided archaeological and historical tour of the Temple of Asclepius, the Abaton, the   Tholos   (dome)   with its puzzling function,   the   Stadium, the Ceremonial Banqueting hall, the Katagogion, the Museum and the Theatre, enjoying its magnificent acoustics. After Epidaurus we will have a 2 km walk, on a preserved ancient path through pine trees and a small stream to enjoy nature.

Olive oil. The juice of the miracle fruit, the olive. Considered a medicine for the entire body since Ancient Greece.

Nemea, is the largest wine-growing area of  Greece,   famous for its wine since ancient times. It has more than 40 wineries and is considered the Land for the wine lovers!! It’s the birthland of God Dionysus and the place where mythical Hercules killed the Nemean Lion. We will see four different wineries, each one representing a different category, geographical location-altitude-variety of wines; one is a small family winery and the rest medium to big size. Each one has their story to tell and their finest wines to share! We will also visit the magical temple of Zeus, where the revival of the Nemean games is held every 4 years.

Inachos was the river God born from the Gods Ocean and Tithis. This is where the history and mythology of the Peloponnese start. In antiquity, this place was the temple of purification for men. Its water springs in the mountain village of Kefalovryso, a breathtaking place to enjoy nature under the ancient sycamore trees.

Sparta, is a town full of history, surrounded by the mountains Taýgetos and Párnon. Sparta was the kingdom of Menelaus and his beautiful queen, the most beautiful of all mortal women of her time, Helen. But Aphrodite had promised Paris of Troy this beautiful woman in return for a favor, so the Trojan prince came to Sparta to claim his trophy. He abducted Helen and travelled back to his homeland. Menelaus wanted his wife back, and so he talked to all the other kings of Greece into fighting against the Trojans. That’s pretty much how the most celebrated war of mythology started.

Mystras is a Byzantine mystical castle town with a medieval splendor that will captivate you. Wander around the castle city and feel the spirits and souls of the people who have lived here.

The Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil, in Sparta (Peloponnese), transports you to the culture, history and technology of the olive and olive oil production in the Greek realm, from prehistoric times to the early 20th century.
The Museum’s objective is to highlight the ineffable relation of the olive with the identity of our country and, more generally, the Mediterranean basin. The olive and olive oil are presented here from different optical angles: the economy, nutrition and the olive’s uses, religious worship, art and technology.

Taygetos mountain is the highest mountain of Peloponnese (2407 m) and you will enjoy its panoramic view while you are tasting local specialties.
