When I was in Naflpio, I decided last minute to take the Food tour through the town. Stavroula was kind enough to accomodate me, event though I literally sent her an email past midnight and she arranged a tour (just for me) at 9:30 in the morning! I need to emphasise that during this tour Stavroula together with Panagiotis treated me like a friend visiting their town and together we had a great time.
To start off the tour was suppose to last 3 hour, instead we were out and about for more than 5 hours. It could have been because of the mulled wine + tsipouro we enjoyed and was part of the tour. During the tour Stavroula provided me with information about Naflpio, including lots of interesting historic facts. Panagiotis being the culinary specialist had always alot of insightful information about food and drink.
The tour extended over visiting local shops, where the owners either produce and/or import local goods, where one could try cheese/cured meat or speciality sauces. I personally enjoyed interaction with the locals, since all of them had interesting backgrounds and were genuinely interested in making conversation.
Furthermore my highlight was when we visited a restaurant in the end and I expressed an interest to get a short cooking lesson in Greek cuisine! Stavroula was happy to arrange this and soon as she spoke to Dimitra, the owner of the Greek restaurant, I found myself wearing an apron and making tomatokeftedes & kolokithokeftedes. After enjoying our cooking among other delicious dishes he restaurant had to offer, I wondered how 5 hours had gone by.
This was really a wonderful tour and I would like to thank Stavroula and Panagiotis. Their enthusiasm and energy goes far beyond any levels I have experienced in other tours in the past and their passion & pride of Greek food & culture will captivate anyone visiting!
